WHAT IF WE DO NOT LIVE IN AGOURA OR WESTLAKE VILLAGE?
No problem! WAGS and USA Softball do not utilize geographical restrictions for league formation. Any girl is eligible to play with WAGS.
That's what our Recreation League is all about: Fun, Learning to Play and Development. WAGS Spring recreation season is open to all girls, regardless of experience. Every girl makes a team. The season is desgined to be fun, instructional, and challenging.
For Tee Ball and 6U, teams are formed based on friend, manager and other requests. For the 8U through 14U divisions, in early January, the girls participate in a skills evaluation. Drafts are then conducted using with the skills along with friend and manager requests. The drafts have a detailed process and are primarily intended to create balanced teams, with matching friends and manager requests as a secondary goal.
It is NOT a "try-out"...EVERYONE makes a team. Skills Evaluation in only for the 8U through 14U divisions and allows players to demonstrate key softball skills (running, hitting, throwing, and fielding) and specialized skills (pitching and catching). Divsion directors and managers use evaluation scores to evenly balance talent across teams in the drafts. Tee Ball and 6U do not have a skills evaluation.
If both daughters are in the same age division, we will place them on the same team during the player draft.
Although we work to accommodate all "friend requests", building balanced teams with equivalent talent is primary goal of the draft process; and therefore, we cannot guarantee your daughter will play on any particular friend or team.
All players must provide their own batting helmet, glove, bat and cleats. Please refer to the Equipment Page for additional information
Most games are on Saturdays and Sundays, with a few Friday night games under the lights.Tee-Ball and the 6U division only play on weekends. Most games occur at the Westlake Village Community Park (YMCA), but games can also occur at local schools and other parks in the Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks and Oak Park areas.
Teams practice at least once a week, on weekday afternoons/evenings. Managers may opt to conduct additional practices.Tee-Ball practices occur during the 30 minutes prior to each game but managers may also opt to have a separate practice too.
WAGS is entirely operated by volunteers. During the season, each team must fill the following volunteer positions: manager, team sponsor, concessions coordinator, yearbook coordinator, scorekeeper, picture day coordinator, field set-up, team parent, and assistant coaches. There is a separate process to volunteer to be a team manager (see the Manager Information section). For all other positions, once you are placed on a team, you'll have the opportunity to volunteer for a role.
Please help make it a great season and volunteer your time.
Although we recommend actively supporting your daughter and her teammates by attending all practices and games, the league does not require you to stay.
Please return prior to the end time for all practices and games. Managers may not leave the field until they ensure all players have been picked up by an approved adult
Whether it is a problem with uniforms, a manager, other parents or just a question about what the shed combinations are...please refer the matter to the appropriate Board Member.
